Mercy Me and The Spaceman, how often do we think of home? Featured
Mercy Me are working on a new project called "The Spaceman". It makes more sense after watching the music video below to the first single "Almost Home". In an interview for Billboard Magazine, Mercy Me's Bart Millard said the inspiration for the song came from a conversation with a Pastor.
“He’s a good friend of mine that’s been in ministry for a long time. He was at our first youth camp that we did 25 years ago. He was our youth minister then, and now he’s a pastor,” Millard says. “He was telling me he had a lot of friends that he’s done life with for a long time and they’ve passed away with cancer and different illnesses. He goes, ‘Man, I think I was ready for the short game when I was a youth pastor dealing with issues, but this long game is wearing me out. I never dreamed that I would outlive some of my dearest friends and mentors and do their funerals.’ He kept saying, ‘I’m just so tired.’"
The song which the band premiered at the 2019 Dove Awards is "...hopefully an anthem for people who are just tired and exhausted." says Millard.
How often do we think of home? As Christians we know that we're not there yet as this world is not our home. Jesus told his disciples he was going to prepare a place for them in his Fathers house (John 14 vs 1-4). Sometimes I'm so distracted by the cares and worries of day to day life I need to be reminded that what I see around me is temporary and when facing suffering remember what God has promised to his children. I was reminded of this recently reading 1 Peter 1 vs 4-6 (NLT).
"For God has reserved a priceless inheritance for his children. It is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. And God in his mighty power, will protect you until you receive this salvation, because you are trusting him. It will be revealed on the last day for all to see. So be truly glad! There is wonderful joy ahead, even though it is necessary for you to endure many trials for a while."
So if tired and weary be encouraged as there is great joy before us even though there may be suffering for a while. Let us continue to trust God through our faith in Jesus Christ.
