Thoughts on the new Kanye West Gospel Album Featured
First Justin Bieber, then Chris Pratt, then Avril Lavigne and now, Kanye West.
On Oct 25th 2019, Kanye West released a much anticipated gospel album titled "JESUS IS KING". It features eight tracks, multiple artists and countless piercing lyrics.
Kanye West has found Jesus and this is cause to celebrate. Not only because we celebrate every lost son/daughter of God coming back home, but because every conversion causes a divine chain reaction. In Kanye's case, the chain reaction may well be millions of people around the world listening to gospel music. They could be your grandchildren, people who have never set foot in a church, people sinking in addiction... who knows where this music will go? More importantly, who knows how powerfully God can use this new gospel album to change lives and restore hope.
Check out these lyrics from his new track called 'Selah' off his JESUS IS KING ALBUM
They say the week start on Monday
But the strong start on Sunday
Won't be in bondage to any man
We the descendants of Abraham
Ye should be made free
To whom the son set free is free indeed
He saved a wretch like me
We, as the body of Christ have a unique opportunity to cheer on our brothers and sisters in Christ, even unlikely Christians like Kanye West. No one can deny the fact that many unbelievers are leaning into (knowingly or unknowingly) Jesus thanks to his music.
In fact, I may go as far as saying that God tends to use those we call unqualified in the most powerful way. (See 1 Cor 1:27)
Kanye's new album is raw, authentic and shatters every notion we may have around 'Gospel Music'
His new album has me asking myself - what if that is a good thing?
