Chocolate Grows On Trees, Right? Featured

Plus all the links and extra bits from Holly & Dan for Friday 1 September.

Top things we talked about:

1000 british kids were quizzed on their food knowledge, and the results weren't very good! One in five didn't know eggs came from an animal, and one in ten thought chocolate (in it's final edible form) grew on trees.

Awful or Awesome: Delaying the School Day

The American Academy of Pediatrics declared the chronic sleepiness of teenagers a public health issue, and have suggested delaying the start of the school day by half an hour to an hour. So we asked if you think this is a good idea, and whether or not you think it would work in New Zealand.

Anneke: Great idea for teen students, BUT not sure how you would work it for teaching staff who still have young families. My wee tribe are all up and at em from 5.45am and ready for school (5,6,7,8,9 aged) by 8am ... I work at an Area School, so we go together but I teach the teens ... so great idea in theory but not sure would work logistically.

Debbie: Awesome. Let kids sleep!!! Plenty of time for them to adjust to workforce hours as adults.

Janet: might be difficult too for all those teens with after school jobs some of those start at 4.30 we have a few teens working for us to earn extra money so they can do extra curricula activities

Caroline: It wouldn't have worked for us as I would drop them at school at 7.55 to start work round the corner at 8. If I left them to get there under their own steam and went without them ... not a chance!

Deal of the day from David Crowder:

Wednesday's Would You Rather:

Assuming similar lifetime earnings, WYR be a movie star, rock star, or pro athlete?

Erin: Definitely movie star. I'd go for fantasy or action adventure. Think about all of the really cool things that you get to do.
Jim: Rock Star, hands down. Always loved the idea of putting all my passion into playing music, and man those concerts look like utterly exhausting fun
Darius: I'd take the pro athlete one. I would get to keep in shape and also I would not be too well known.
Kylie: Not an athlete, because of injuries to my bodies. Not a rock star, because of injuries to my ears due to constant exposure to loud sound. By process of elimination, I'll take movie star
Ben: I've always wanted to sing but never had the talent or time/money to learn. Rock star for sure.

Today's Bible Society Verse of the Day is Matthew 5:44 - "But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!"

When someone does something to hurt you the human reaction is that it hurts and you want to get back at them but in this verse God tells us how he wants us to deal with them; love them, and pray for them.  That's one of those things that sound good in principle but the reality of that when you're in the situation is actually really hard.  You may have heard the saying "it won't happen overnight but it will happen"... so we keep practicing, and when you get to that place when you are loving on others and when you're praying for them and forgiving them, it really makes your life a whole lot less stressful.
