"10,000 Reasons"

Matt Redman

Matt Redman's deliberate and earnest approach to crafting meaningful worship music has made him a contemporary Christian favorite for over 15 years. His eighth album, 10,000 Reasons, strays little from the winning formula of anthems that are big enough to capture your heart yet simple enough to stick in your head. What endears the U.K. native once again is his utter command of lyrics, instruments, and emotions to create an on-going worship experience.

The album was recorded live for an audience of thousands of worship leaders during LIFT: A Worship Leader Collective in Atlanta, Georgia. By this point in his career, Redman had to dig deep to distinguish this record from the rest of his catalogue.

For the most part, he makes up for any lack of inventiveness with what he deems the "fire that burns inside," a line that rings out on opening track, "We Are the Free." Redman is one of a handful of contemporary Christian artists in whom fans value consistency just as much, if not more, than pure artistry.

His fans, along with those of Chris Tomlin, Casting Crowns, Hillsong United, and others, want to know what they can expect from these artists.

That is why Redman, who bases all of his songs on scriptural themes, can continue to make hit collections again and again.

"The Hurt & The Healer"

Mercy Me

The Hurt & The Healer is a celebration of that moment when these two worlds collide... the deep need for healing and the God who provides it.
Produced by Brown Bannister and Dan Muckula,The Hurt & The Healer features signature MercyMe anthems, engaging pop songs and worshipful and intimate moments.

A good starting place is the lead single from the album. Throughout its tenure, MercyMe has succeeded most often with ballads (“I Can Only Imagine,” “Word of God Speak,”) and, true to form, it’s the emotive title track that does the trick on this album. Written by Millard after the death of his cousin, it’s a big-ticket ballad with Millard’s engaging tenor as the centerpiece of the song. The chorus—“I’m alive/ even though a part of me has died/ I fall into your arms open wide” finds a fresh way to address a familiar topic—the problem of pain—in an accessible and original way.

Helmed by producing vets Dan Muckala and Brown Bannister, the album hits its AC radio sweet spot head-on, while still attempting to take unexpected turns here and there. Another sweeping ballad is “You Are I Am,” a massive anthem with a soaring hook reminiscent of Casting Crowns. Opener “You Know Better” is cast in the Steven Curtis Chapman mold: a bright, up-tempo shot of encouragement wrapped in a 3 ½-minute package. Lyrics throughout Healer are skillful and mostly successful at navigating the dilemma of expressing complicated concepts in the limitations of pop phrasing.

The band steps outside the traditional occasionally, revving its engines on “You Don’t Care at All,” a Vertical Horizon-type rocker, and conjures a Beatles vibe on “To Whom It May Concern.” “Take the Time” is perhaps the most pleasant surprise: a crankin’ gospel/blues number with guest vocals from Needtobreathe front man Bear Rinehart. It’s a treat to hear these two gifted vocalists trading licks in the song’s latter stages.

Cornerstone by Hillsong

Cornerstone is the twenty-first album in the live praise and worship series of Christian Contemporary music by Hillsong Church. It was recorded at the Allphones Arena in Sydney Olympic Park, Sydney Australia, the Sydney Entertainment Centre and the Hillsong Convention Centre by Reuben Morgan, Joel Houston, Darlene Zschech and the Hillsong Worship Team on the 30 October 2011 and the early part of 2012.

Hillsong LIVE is the expression of worship from Hillsong Church - a local church with global influence. This local church creative team has a commitment to continually resource the Body of Christ with fresh songs of worship and a deep passion to see people connect with the Living God in a real and personal way. “Cornerstone”, the latest album offering from Hillsong LIVE, was recorded in Sydney, Australia and is a reflection of that firm commitment. This album offers fresh, new songs to congregations worldwide, with a simple desire to place emphasis on Jesus and a prayer that people everywhere - regardless of circumstance - will be encouraged to find hope in Christ, the Cornerstone. Filled with songs such as the title track “Cornerstone”; new anthem “Beneath The Waters” (I Will Rise); and upbeat praise, “Running”, our prayer is that this album will be a blessing to the global Body of Christ, filling churches and homes with the worship of an ever-faithful God.[1]
"Together, we are His house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus Himself" (Eph 2:20 NLT).

Recorded with tens of thousands in worship, this album captures the heart and sound of Hillsong Church globally and represents the coming together of the Hillsong worship team from around the world; including Reuben Morgan, Joel Houston, Ben Fielding, Annie Garratt and Darlene Zschech, Hillsong UNITED, and international teams from London and Stockholm.

Re:Creation by Steven Curtis Chapman

Re:creation is the 17th studio album from Steven Curtis Chapman which features five new re-imagined recordings of eight of his biggest hits. In examining how to best recreate some of the songs that made him the most awarded artist in Christian music history, Chapman once again tapped Brent Milligan, whom he worked with on Beauty Will Rise, to co-produce the new project.

“Musically I felt Beauty Will Rise went to a new place for me,” Chapman explains. “It was a more acoustic, more organic recording, and that was something that I felt was really appropriate for this album as well. I write almost all of my songs with just an acoustic guitar. They begin in that organic and stripped down space, but then you get into the studio and the sounds of the day and the technology of that era influence how the songs get recorded. I thought, ‘Wow, I’d love to redo ‘For The Sake Of The Call’ because that song means something different now. It means continuing to live out the call to share our faith in light of all we’ve been through.

When I did it originally, it was a big production. The sounds of the drums were real big and there was a lot of reverb and I was thinking, ‘I would love to do that song more the way that I perform it live now.’ I found that since Maria went to heaven, many of the songs that I have written over the years continue to grow in meaning. The heart behind doing this was asking, how can I take some of those songs that have a new depth to me and reinterpret those, recreate those? Thus the title re:creation.”
