However this picture may be changing, with economic growth breaking the chains of poverty in some parts of Africa.

In a recent announcement, the UK has set it will be cutting all aid to India within the next four years.
Once the jewel in the crown of the British Empire, India is now one of the world’s most rapidly growing economies, though still has many millions trapped in poverty.
Some are saying India needs trade not aid, but will the new found affluence of some have any benefit to the poorest of the poor?
