Kiwi runner Nick Willis has been unable to match his silver medal at the Beijing Olympics, fading out of the medals in the 1500m final in London.
Willis was on the pace with a lap to go, but got left behind by a eventual winner Taoufik Makhloufi of Algeria.
Makhloufi won in a time of three minutes 34.08 seconds.
Willi says he wasn't feeling 100 percent, and that his legs were tired going into the race but he assumed everyone's would be.
American Leonel Manzano finished second with a great sprint in the last 100m, and Abdalaati Iguider of Morocco finished third.
Earlier, the winner Makhloufi had been kicked out of the Games for not trying in the 800 metres, but was re-instated after an appeal.
