The man suspected of killing six people at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin is a US army veteran.
Forty year old Wade Michael Page was shot dead by police in the Milwaukee suburb of Oak Creek yesterday.
Local police chief, John Edwards, has already confirmed that the suspect had a military background.
It is believed he was dismissed from the army in 1998 for misconduct, including being drunk on duty.
Forensic experts have searched the gunman's home, just a few miles from Oak Creek, but a motive for the shootings is yet to be determined.
According to Voice of America news service, a U.S. civil rights group, the Southern Poverty Law Center, describes Page as a "frustrated neo-Nazi" and leader of a racist white-power band called End Apathy.
Enforcement authorities say the shooting on Sunday morning is being investigated as an act of domestic terrorism.
