Donna Summer, the woman dubbed the Queen of Disco has died.
Not many people knew the 63 year old had been suffering from cancer.
Her pulsing anthems such "Last Dance", "Love to Love you, Baby" and "Bad Girl" became the soundtrack for the seventies.
Along with the Bee Gees, she defined the Disco era with a string of number one hits.
She had one of her biggest hits in the 1980s with She Works Hard For The Money, which became another anthem, this time for women's rights. Legendary producer Quincy Jones says her voice was "the heartbeat and soundtrack of a decade'.
Elton John says it is a 'total disgrace' that she has never been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame "especially when you see the second rate talent that HAS been inducted", he told the BBC.
But it was her faith that stands out. according to her family. A statement from her family said "Early this morning, we lost Donna Summer Sudano, a woman of many gifts, the greatest being her faith. While we grieve her passing, we are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy. Words truly can't express how much we appreciate your prayers and love for our family at this sensitive time."
Paul Bahn, a drummer who toured with Summer for a decade, told US TV station The Dove, "Donna was into The Word, loved the Lord, and I can tell you for sure, she was someone who did not compromise her beliefs in her show".
"I am grateful to the Lord for the time I spent with Donna. She was a very generous person, and a crack up, a very funny person. Touring with Donna is one of the most positive experiences I ever had". You can see Steve Johnson's interview with Paul Bahn below.
Donna Summer has asked that instead of floral tributes, people should donate money to the work of the Salvation Army.
